Just pimping my babies!
June 26, 2008And by my babies, I mean UneXpecT, lol. SAME THING OKAY.
So actually, this weekend I'm going to be in St. Paul, Minnesota... random friggin place, I know, but it's for a concert.
(...Because that makes it better. XDDDDD)
Anyway, this Saturday is the second-annual Flight of the Valkyries festival, and this year's headlining band is UneXpecT, a seven-piece band from Montreal who are AWESOME. :D Here's the flyer if you're interested:

So, about the band... well, I first heard about them in 2006, when a 30-second clip of them playing (which actually was part of a commercial aired on MTV2, go figure XD) made me FALL IN LOVE, and I immediately checked out more of their music. To this day, I still really can't describe their music in words, it's impossible, but suffice it to say that they are probably one of the most original bands out there today. The kind of material they are composing boggles the mind, I often find myself wondering how it's even possible for humans to come up with this stuff, lol. It's at once complex and so simple... I just, really don't know. But I'd say, do yourself a favor and buy their latest album, In a Flesh Aquarium, you will not be disappointed.
Not to mention, they're just about the nicest guys you could even imagine. I've seen them live now 5 times (this weekend will be my sixth) and not only do their performances not disappoint, but they genuinely just love their fans, and they'll literally just pull you out of the crowd when they're done to talk to you, or just bum around the venue after shows chatting with you. IT GIVES YOU A WARM, FUZZY FEELING INSIDE, YOU KNOW? XD
On the off chance that any of you are in the St. Paul area, I'd advise you not to miss this show, it's a very rare opportunity for UneXpecT because they are headliners, meaning they'll be playing a 90-minute set. This doesn't often happen in the US, they're usually lucky if they get half an hour, lol. Anyway, the Flight of the Valkyries website has just about everything you need to know, so check it out:

BUT if you can't attend, all hope is not lost! UneXpecT tours like crazy, they have plenty of shows in Canada coming up, a US tour in September, and a HUGE tour of Europe starting in October. Anyway, if you want to check them out, you have several options:

And of course, their online store:

I pimp this because yes, these are genuinely nice people who still aren't all that well-known... they tour with a tiny van and a trailer, most still haven't been able to quite their day jobs, and as of yet they've never been able to do a full-blown headlining US tour, which is personally what I'd like to see them accomplish most (and they'd love the chance as well). Sooooo for that to happen, you must BUY THEIR STUFF! LOTS OF STUFF! YES. XDDD
So anyway! That's what I'll be doing this weekend. I will probably have very limited, if any, Internet access from Friday to Sunday, so I IMPLORE you to be nice to Dru, Nae, and Jamie, yes yes? Okay. ^^
